Nigeria Must Not Become a Killing Field – Obi Condemns Fresh Attacks
Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has condemned recent attacks in Benue, Plateau and Niger states, urging the government to take decisive action.

Obi made the call in a statement on Sunday while reacting to reports of killings, abductions and destruction across the three states.
He expressed concern over the growing insecurity, saying Nigerians should not be forced to live under constant fear of attacks.
Obi cited the recent violence in Jwak Maitumbi, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
At least 23 people were officially reported killed, although residents reportedly placed the death toll above 30.
More than 45 houses were also reportedly destroyed during the attack.
The former Anambra State governor also referred to recent attacks in Borgu, Niger State.
More than 40 people were reportedly killed, while over 100 others were allegedly abducted.
Obi noted that the figures surrounding the Niger State attacks remained contested.
He said communities in Benue State were similarly facing repeated attacks, abductions and destruction of homes and livelihoods.
“Nigeria is not officially at war, yet citizens are being attacked in their villages, abducted after prayers, driven from their homes and stripped of their farms,” Obi said.
He urged authorities to stop treating the incidents as separate attacks occurring in different parts of the country.
According to Obi, the violence represents a broader national security challenge requiring urgent and coordinated intervention.
He called for stronger intelligence gathering and faster responses to threats against vulnerable communities.
Obi also urged security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue abducted Nigerians and bring those responsible to justice.
“We cannot keep counting bodies after every attack. We must prevent these attacks before they happen,” he said.
He maintained that protecting citizens and their property remains one of the government’s primary responsibilities.
“Nigeria must not become a killing field,” Obi added.
