ADC Abandons Coalition Push, Targets APC Victory
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has said it is ready to pursue victory in the 2027 general election without relying on an opposition coalition.
ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, disclosed this during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday.
Abdullahi said the party initially backed a broad coalition because it believed opposition unity would make it easier to challenge the ruling APC.
He explained that the situation changed after Peter Obi and Rabi’u Kwankwaso left for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to him, opposition parties are still holding discussions on possible cooperation ahead of the 2027 election.
He said the talks are not centred on producing a single presidential candidate for the opposition.
Instead, Abdullahi identified election monitoring and vote protection as areas where opposition parties could work together.
“The ADC doesn’t need a coalition to win this 2027 election,” Abdullahi said.
He added that the G-100 mobilisation initiative was still working to bring opposition parties together ahead of the election.
Abdullahi said the current focus is on practical cooperation that could strengthen the opposition during the electoral process.
