AFCON 2025: Lookman leads goal chart as Nigeria brace for Morocco showdown
Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman has taken centre stage at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, emerging as the tournament’s leading player in goal contributions ahead of the semi-final clash against the host nation.
The Atalanta forward has been one of the standout performers of the competition, recording seven goal involvements — three goals and four assists — to top the AFCON rankings so far.
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen follows closely with six goal contributions, made up of four goals and two assists, underlining Nigeria’s attacking strength as the tournament reaches its business end.
Morocco’s Brahim Díaz and Egypt captain Mohamed Salah are next on the list with five goal contributions each, while Nigeria’s Akor Adams, Senegal’s Sadio Mané, Ivory Coast’s Amad Diallo and Morocco’s Ayoub El-Kaabi are all tied on four.
Attention now turns to Wednesday’s semi-final fixtures, where hosts Morocco will face Nigeria in a highly anticipated encounter, while Senegal battle Egypt in the second last-four tie.
With Lookman in red-hot form and Nigeria firing on all cylinders, the Super Eagles will be confident of overcoming the Atlas Lions and booking a place in the AFCON final.
