AMVCA 2026: ‘My Father’s Shadow’ Dominates as Full Winners List Sparks Reactions

 

The 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards 2026 lit up Lagos on Saturday night with a celebration of Africa’s biggest achievements in film, television and digital entertainment.

 

Held at the prestigious Eko Hotel & Suites, the ceremony gathered actors, filmmakers, producers and digital creators from across the continent for one of the industry’s most anticipated nights.

 

The biggest winner of the evening was My Father’s Shadow, which clinched the coveted Best Overall Movie award alongside Best Director and Best Cinematography.

 

Director Akinola Davies Jr. emerged victorious in the Best Director category, while cinematographer Jermaine Edwards was recognised for his striking visual work on the film.

 

Actor Uzor Arukwe secured the Best Lead Actor award for his performance in Colours Of Fire, while Linda Ejiofor took home the Best Lead Actress trophy for her role in The Serpent’s Gift.

 

In the supporting categories, Bucci Franklin won Best Supporting Actor for To Kill A Monkey, while Linda Ejiofor added another win to her night by claiming Best Supporting Actress for The Herd.

 

Among indigenous language productions, Lisabi: A Legend Is Born emerged as Best Indigenous Language Film in West Africa, while Addis Fikir, Tlhaho Ya Mosadi, Artal Alhanin: Our Memories and Mabanda won in their respective regional categories.

 

Digital creators also had a strong showing at the awards, with Emmanuel Kanaga and Sophia Chisom winning Best Digital Content Creator.

 

Reality and unscripted productions also claimed major honours, as Nigerian Idol won Best Unscripted M-Net Original and Best Unscripted Series.

 

Veteran Nollywood stars Sola Sobowale and Kanayo O. Kanayo were honoured with the prestigious Industry Merit Awards for their long-standing contributions to African cinema, while Uche Montana received the Trailblazer Award.

 

The 2026 ceremony once again highlighted the growing global influence of African storytelling, with filmmakers and actors from different regions of the continent earning recognition for productions that continue to push creative boundaries.
