In a demonstration of compassion and social responsibility, the Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) has donated school bags, notebooks, pens, and Bibles to pupils of the Nigerian Red Cross Nursery and Primary School, Makoko, Lagos.

The gesture also extended to 70 households, who received food items to help cushion the impact of the current economic challenges.

The outreach took place on Friday at the school premises under the Society’s corporate social responsibility initiative known as the Macedonia Call.

Representing the BSN General Secretary, Pastor Samuel Sanusi, the Manager of Production and Programme, Mrs. Grace Benjamin, said the initiative aims to alleviate the financial burden facing many families and ensure children have access to the basic tools they need to thrive in school.

“This is not our first visit to Makoko,” said Mrs. Benjamin. “We’ve been here before, and we keep returning because we recognize the need. Today, we donated school bags, books, pens, and Bibles to the pupils, and food items to their families. We know this won’t solve all the problems, but it’s our way of standing in solidarity and showing that we care.”

Mrs. Benjamin also emphasized that while the government is making efforts to address food insecurity and economic hardship, organizations like BSN have a duty to contribute meaningfully to community wellbeing.

The Lagos Branch Secretary of the Nigerian Red Cross, Mr. Olakunle Lasisi, commended BSN for its generosity and reaffirmed the Red Cross’s commitment to partnering with credible organizations to protect and uplift vulnerable communities.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Adebanke Fagbamila, whose daughter attends the school, expressed heartfelt gratitude, noting that the donated school supplies and foodstuffs would ease the financial strain on her family.

“This came at the right time,” she said. “Things are tough right now, and this support will really help us.”

The Bible Society of Nigeria continues to promote its mission of making the Word of God available and accessible while actively engaging in initiatives that uplift communities across the country.
