Police and army in Entebbe municipality ahead swearing-in ceremony of municipality leaders.

Security personnel have been deployed outside and inside Entebbe Municipal Council offices and areas around State House and on some sections of the Kampala-Entebbe highway.

The deployment follows reports of protests by supporters of the former Democratic Party-DP Mayoral candidate Vincent DePaul Kayanja.

On January 26, supporters of the National Resistance Movement- NRM and DP held joint protests after Wakiso District Returning Officer Tolbert Musinguzi declared Fabrice Rulinda Brad, an independent candidate the winner.

The protests resulted in the killing of Eric Kyeyune, an NRM leader in Katabi-Busambaga village while three people sustained injuries. Kayanja has since petitioned against Rulinda’s victory in the High Court.

Since then, there have been tensions between Rulinda, NRM and DP supporters. Rulinda and the 23 municipal councillors will take oath today at the municipal council offices.

Andrew Wani, the former LCIII councillor in Division A and a DP member says that the party supporters will not protest because Kayanja has filed an election petition.

Charles Magumba, the Entebbe Town Clerk says that Kayanja handed over the office to him last week and that he will today handover Kayanya’s report to Rulinda after he has been sworn in.

He says that the council will spend 2 Million Shillings on the swearing-in ceremony and 4 Million Shillings for the same ceremony at the two municipal divisions on Wednesday.
