Farmers in Kaduna, Nigeria are facing a dire situation as bandits demand hefty sums, ranging from N70,000 to N100,000, before allowing them to harvest crops. These armed criminals, led by warlords named Buhari, Gana’i, and Kwalameri, pose a dual threat by not only extorting money but also disrupting the agricultural sector. The escalating banditry has led to fear and insecurity, prompting some farmers to abandon their fields. This crisis extends beyond agriculture, impacting education, healthcare, industries, and businesses in Kaduna. The government and security agencies are taking measures to address the issue, including arrests, rescues, curfews, and movement restrictions. The people are hopeful for a resolution that ensures their safety and the ability to sustain their livelihoods without succumbing to banditry.
