President Filipe Nyusi has with immediate effect dismissed the country’s national defence minister, Jaime Augusto Neto, amidst security scandals including corruption, kidnappings, murders and terrorism.
Nyusi’s unexplained landmark decision follows his sacking of the interior minister, Amade Miquidade and other top security chiefs a day ago.
Meanwhile, Mozambique civil society groups have mounted calls on President Nyusi to clear the air on speculations surrounding his unexplained decisions.
Civil society groups say such decisions may further destabilize the already fragile national peace and security.
