Nafiz Modack Questioned Over Why His Associate Tracked Former Anti-Gang Boss Lincoln
Alleged Cape Town underworld figure, Nafiz Modack, faced tough questions in the Western Cape High Court over why his associate, Zane Kilian, was tracking the late General Andre Lincoln, who once headed South Africa’s Anti-Gang Unit.
The issue came up during Modack’s ongoing trial, where he and 14 others face 122 charges, including the 2020 murder of top detective Charl Kinnear.
Lincoln, who had testified as a state witness before passing away in May, was among those Kilian had allegedly “pinged” a method used to trace someone’s phone location.
Modack told the court that he only hired Kilian’s services to find his brother, Yaseen Modack, who had been arrested by the anti-gang unit in June 2020.
However, prosecutors questioned why Kilian’s phone-tracking activity included not only Kinnear but also Lincoln and other well-known underworld figures such as Jerome Booysen and the late Andre Naude.
This raised suspicions that Modack’s explanations might not align with the broader evidence being presented in court.
During cross-examination, state prosecutor Greg Wolmarans pressed Modack to clarify why Kilian was tracking Lincoln’s phone on the same day he claimed to have spoken to the general.
When Modack admitted he had given Lincoln’s number to Kilian, Wolmarans accused him of trying to twist the story, saying, “Keep spinning it, Mr. Modack.”

The court adjourned, with cross-examination expected to continue on Wednesday as prosecutors seek to uncover the full truth behind the phone-tracking links.
