On Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar raised concerns about the nation’s democratic stability, warning against a drift towards a one-party dictatorship. He criticized the weakening of opposition parties and the ruling party’s manipulation of political processes, stating, “The current state of our democracy is precarious.”
Atiku highlighted the erosion of electoral credibility and called for unity among political leaders to safeguard democracy. He emphasized the importance of political inclusivity and fair elections, noting, “Democracy has anchored our institutions in the rule of law, but we’ve yet to achieve satisfactory progress.”
Atiku urged a coalition among politicians to restore democracy and uplift Nigeria, celebrating the resilience of its citizens in the face of challenges. He concluded with a call to action, saying, “Let us unite to reclaim our democracy and ensure a brighter future for all.”
