Outgoing Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has reportedly left the country amid controversy, having handed over state affairs to his ally, Joseph Eboigbe, despite a court ruling reinstating his Deputy, Philip Shaibu.
According to inside sources, “Obaseki and his wife, Betsy, boarded a Turkish airline transit flight” on September 27, arriving in Venice on September 28. They plan to attend the 60th Biennale Foundation International Cultural Exhibition, which concludes in November.
Although Obaseki had requested legislative approval for his terminal leave, he departed before receiving it, directing Eboigbe to finalize handover documents by October 30 for submission to the governor-elect on November 12. This departure has raised questions about the state leadership and Obaseki’s future plans.
