NIGERIA: U.S Judge Refutes Urgent Release of Nigerian President’s Records

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu received temporary relief as a U.S. federal judge denied an urgent request for the release of his confidential records. The records were sought by IT consultant Aaron Greenspan, who filed a Freedom of Information request. Greenspan’s emergency motion to expedite the release of these records was denied by Judge Beryl Howell, who cited the need to protect Tinubu’s privacy interests.Tinubu had earlier filed a motion to intervene in the case to prevent the release of his records, arguing that it would violate his privacy and statutory rights. The judge also approved Tinubu’s request to have his lawyer appear in the case. The U.S. Department of Justice did not take a position on whether Tinubu should join the case.
