The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has issued a warning that 2.6 million Nigerians in Borno, Sokoto, Zamfara States, and the FCT could potentially face a severe food crisis between June and August 2024. This information was revealed during the presentation of the Cadre Harmonise food security and early warning analysis in Abuja. The analysis assessed the food security situation and projected future challenges. The crisis is attributed to factors like persistent insecurity, conflicts, rising food and input costs, dry spells, and global issues such as COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Environmental and human factors like climate change and displacement also contribute to recurring food security concerns. The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security is committed to addressing these challenges and expanding the analysis to cover all 36 states in Nigeria by the end of 2024.
