Nigerian Labour Congress Organizes Nationwide Protest Against Telecom Tariff Hike

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has announced a nationwide protest scheduled for Tuesday, February 4, to oppose the 50% increase in telecom tariffs approved by the Federal Government. The decision was made during the NLC’s National Administrative Council meeting.

The protest is aimed at voicing workers’ opposition to the hike, which the NLC argues will worsen poverty across the country. NLC President Joe Ajaero condemned the tariff increase, calling it an attack on citizens’ well-being while prioritizing corporate profits over public welfare.

Ajaero emphasized the economic strain the increase places on workers, who are already struggling with inflation and high living costs.

The NLC is calling for a reversal of the decision and urges a more reasonable approach if a tariff increase is necessary. The labor body plans to mobilize citizens, including the possibility of a boycott of telecommunication services, to demand the government reconsider this polic
