Nigerian Military Kills Top Commanders, Over 50 Terrorists in Lake Chad Strike
More than 50 terrorists have been killed in a series of Nigerian military airstrikes carried out under Operation Hadin Kai in the Lake Chad region.
The operation also led to the neutralisation of top terrorist commanders, in what security sources describe as a major setback for insurgent networks operating in the North-East.
Intelligence reports confirmed that the strikes targeted known terrorist enclaves and logistics hubs used for planning and sustaining attacks across the region.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama said the air operations were conducted on May 31 in the Kirta and Arina Ciki areas, following actionable intelligence on insurgent activities.
Military sources explained that the bombardments hit fortified positions and supply bases, destroying key infrastructure used by the group.
Among those killed were Khalifa Umar, identified as a member of the terrorists’ Shura Council from Sigir, alongside field commanders Abdallah and Abduljalil.
Authorities said the loss of these commanders has disrupted the group’s leadership structure and weakened its operational capacity in the Lake Chad Basin.
Several logistics stores, communication points, and support facilities were also destroyed during the strikes, further degrading the terrorists’ ability to regroup.
The Nigerian military says the offensive is part of ongoing counter-insurgency efforts aimed at dismantling terrorist strongholds and restoring security in affected communities across the North-East.
