
Jinja, Uganda 6/09/2025–The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) was honored to be part of the Diocesan Youth Day celebrations hosted by the Busoga Diocese at Cathedral church Bugembe, held in conjunction with the farewell ceremony for the outgoing Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Dr. Paul Moses Samson Naimanhye. The event marked a significant milestone as the Diocese bid farewell to a visionary leader and celebrated the launch of a youth empowerment initiative.
The day’s theme revolved around paying tribute to Bishop Naimanhye for his exemplary and proactive leadership, while also mobilizing support for the construction of a Youth skilling Center ,an ambitious project aimed at transforming the lives of young people across Busoga.
The function was presided over by the Chief Guest, Hon. Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, Minister of Works and Transport, who represented the Vice President of the Republic of Uganda, H.E. Rtd. Maj. Jessica Alupo. In his address, Gen. Katumba Wamala commended the Diocese for its focus on youth empowerment and handed over support(10m) towards the youth Skills Center project. He further urged the youth to actively engage in national development programs such as the Standard Gauge Railway project, emphasizing its potential to revolutionize transport, stimulate economic growth, and uplift communities.

“Youth must embrace creativity, resilience, and patience,” the Minister advised. “Success is a journey rooted in hard work, faith, and time.”
One of the notable guests was the General Manager of NWSC Jinja, Eng. Badru Wadwasi, who represented the NWSC Managing Director, Eng. Silver Mugisha. On behalf of the Corporation, MD contributed UGX 10 million towards the Youth Skilling Centre. Eng. Wadwasi expressed NWSC’s commitment to supporting community-driven initiatives, particularly those aimed at youth development and Christian ministry.

“We commend the young people of Busoga for their service in Christ and applaud the Diocese’s leadership for nurturing their potential,” said Eng. Wadwasi. He also extended appreciation to Nicholas, the outgoing Diocesan Youth President, for his role in organising the event and mobilising youth engagement.
The General Manager highlighted the successful implementation of the E-billing strategy, which has significantly enhanced service delivery by ensuring that customers receive their bills promptly via SMS and email. He emphasized the streamlined NWSC bill payment procedures and elaborated on the ease of accessing services such as applying for new water connections, clearly outlining the steps involved. Furthermore, he urged communities to cultivate a culture of timely bill settlement to support sustainable service provision. In conclusion, he touched on the ongoing NWSC extension projects in the Jinja area, particularly in Kitigoma ,Masese and Nanso, which are designed to improve water quality and ensure a consistent and sufficient water supply for the growing population
In his farewell message, Bishop Naimanhye expressed deep gratitude to NWSC and its leadership, praying for continued blessings and success upon the Corporation. “May the Almighty grant Eng. Silver Mugisha, Eng. Wadwasi, and the entire NWSC team the desires of their hearts for their generous support,” he said.
The celebration concluded with a heartfelt prayer from the outgoing Bishop, who invoked divine favour upon all attendees, encouraging them to pursue lives of purpose, faith, and service.
