The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have decided to suspend their nationwide industrial action for a period of five days.
TUC President, Festus Osifo, announced the suspension in Abuja, stating that the move aims to facilitate uninterrupted discussions with the tripartite committee regarding the new national minimum wage. This decision follows promises from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, assuring a commitment from President Bola Tinubu’s administration to exceed the proposed minimum wage of N60,000.
Akume further guaranteed protection for workers involved in the strike and pledged that the tripartite committee would meet daily over the next week to finalize negotiations on the new wage structure.
