The release of the 2025 WASSCE results has triggered widespread concern across Nigeria, as only 38.32% of the nearly 2 million candidates obtained five credits, including English and Mathematics — the minimum requirement for university admission. This means over 1.2 million students failed to meet the benchmark.
WAEC’s Head of National Office, Dr. Amos Dangut, revealed a 33.8% decline in performance compared to 2024. Additionally, results of 192,089 candidates were withheld due to exam malpractice, and two states had results delayed for failing to pay exam fees.
Education stakeholders, including school owners and parents, have expressed frustration, calling for urgent reforms in the Nigerian education system. WAEC has made the results available online, with digital certificates to follow within 48 hours.
