Police Refute Claims of Assassination Attempt on Naval Officer Involved in Clash With Wike
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has dismissed online reports claiming that Lieutenant Ahmed Yerima, the naval officer who recently clashed publicly with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike—survived an assassination attempt.
Social media posts circulated late Sunday alleging that Yerima was trailed through Abuja by two unmarked Hilux vans with no number plates.
The occupants were said to be dressed in black and reportedly followed him from the NIPCO filling station near the Line Expressway to Gado Nasco Way.
Reacting to the claims, FCT Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh said no such incident was reported to any police formation in the territory. She described the story as entirely false and urged the public to ignore it.
“The Command wishes to state clearly that there is no record of such an incident anywhere in the Federal Capital Territory,” she said. “Residents should disregard this misinformation and avoid sharing unverified claims that can cause needless panic.”
Adeh encouraged Abuja residents to remain alert and continue reporting suspicious activity to the nearest police division for their own safety.
The rumours emerged days after a widely circulated confrontation involving Lieutenant Ahmed Yerima and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike during an enforcement operation in Abuja.
The exchange drew intense public attention, prompting speculation and online narratives around the officer’s safety.
The police statement seeks to calm the growing chatter and reassure residents that no threat or attack had been recorded.
