SIU Uncovers R2 Billion Fraud at Tembisa Hospital
The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has revealed that about R2 billion was siphoned from Tembisa Hospital through fraudulent contracts and irregular payments.
The investigation uncovered how money meant for healthcare services was diverted into the hands of individuals and companies that did not deliver real value.
According to the SIU, the scheme involved fake tenders, inflated invoices, and suppliers linked to insiders at the hospital.
These corrupt activities drained critical funds that should have improved patient care, equipment, and staff support.
The investigation highlights how deep-rooted corruption has affected South Africa’s healthcare system.

The SIU has recommended that those involved face criminal charges and that stolen money be recovered.
The findings are part of a larger effort to clean up corruption in public health facilities and restore trust in the system.
Authorities say accountability is key to ensuring hospitals truly serve the people.
