The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 4 Travel Health Notice for Liberia due to Covid-19 and high rate crimes alert indicating a very level of Covid- 19 in the country and insecurities permeating the country.

Liberia has in recent days recorded one of the unprecedented Covid-19 related death rate across Africa according to health authorities in the country prompting the government to prevail on the Ministry of Health (MOH) and National Public Health Institute (NPHIL) to institute prevented measures that will help the government the fight against the deadly virus.

It can be recounted that the Minister of Health Dr Wilhelmina Jallah announced these protocols or modus operandi on State Radio Liberia Broadcasting System with Police since enforcing adherence to these health measures announced in order to curb the spread of the communicable disease. The United States government in her alert stated that a person’s risk of contracting Covid-19 -19 and developing severe symptoms may be lower if you are fully vaccinated with an FDA authorized vaccine.

The Government cautioned her citizens to visit the CDC’s specific recommendations for vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers before planning any international travel due to the recent surge in the Covid-19 virus across the country. The U.S. government cited emphatically in the alert release on its page that violent crime, such as armed robbery as mainly the crime common in urban areas and on public beaches with the Liberian National Police lacking logistics to effectively combat serious crimes.

The Embassy release further stated that the U.S. Government is unable to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens outside greater Monrovia at night as U.S. Government employees are prohibited from traveling outside the capital or between counties after dark except travel to and from Roberts International Airport.

The Government of Liberia has since remained tight-lipped on the issue raised by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention concerning the incapacity of the police to respond effectively to crimes in the urban areas and on beaches as the silence of the Liberian Government has left many in limbo concerning the safety of the state with the alarming alert from the U.S. Government to her citizens living and wanting to visit Liberia.
