Why Nigeria’s Musician, Don Jazzy Remains Unmarried at 42 Despite Fame and Success
Mavin Records boss and one of Nigeria’s most influential music producers, Don Jazzy, has shed light on why he is still single in his 40s despite a remarkable career that has shaped the country’s entertainment industry.
Speaking on the Echo Podcast, the 42-year-old revealed that marriage was one of the few things he may have unconsciously sacrificed in pursuit of his dreams.
“I never thought I’d be in my 40s and not married. Maybe that’s the one I lost along the way. If it comes, it comes. If it doesn’t, I’m totally fine,” he said.
Don Jazzy, born Michael Collins Ajereh, is widely regarded as a pioneer of modern Afrobeats. Beyond producing chart-topping hits, he has been instrumental in nurturing talents such as Tiwa Savage, Rema, Ayra Starr, Korede Bello and many others.
This is not the first time he has spoken about his personal life. In 2021, he disclosed that he was briefly married in his early 20s but the union ended largely because of his all-consuming passion for music.
He has since acknowledged that his dedication to his career often left little room for family life.
Despite the sacrifices, Don Jazzy insists he has no regrets, noting that his achievements and the global rise of Afrobeats give him immense fulfilment.
He maintains that, married or not, his legacy in Nigeria’s music industry is already secure.
