Wike Vows to Keep Political Opponents Awake, Says He Acted Within the Law
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, says he will continue to unsettle his critics across political parties as long as his actions remain within the law.
Speaking during a media briefing on Thursday after the FCT Executive Committee meeting, Wike said politicians in the PDP, APC, and ADC would “have sleepless nights” if they choose to oppose him.
The Minister’s remarks came as he addressed the controversy surrounding his confrontation with a Naval officer, Lieutenant A.M. Yerima, during an enforcement operation at Gaduwa in Abuja.
According to Wike, the disputed plot, originally designated for Parks and Recreation—was being unlawfully altered by its owner, retired Chief of Naval Staff Awwal Gambo.
Officials of the FCT Administration attempting to stop the conversion were reportedly blocked by military personnel deployed to the site.
Wike said he visited the location with his team but was also prevented from accessing the property, leading to a heated exchange between him and the military officers, an incident that has since drawn nationwide attention.
“I have no regrets,” he said. “I will continue to give my political opponents sleepless nights, whether they are in the PDP, APC, or ADC.
As long as I am acting within the law, anyone can bring whatever ethnicity or colouration they want—that’s their business.”
