In a recent interview, Nigerian music icon 2Face (Innocent Idibia) finally addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding his groundbreaking song African Queen, clearing the air about claims made by his former bandmate Blackface.
Blackface has long alleged that 2Face stole the song, but 2Face set the record straight, revealing that African Queen was a collaborative effort, despite his larger contribution to the lyrics.
The feud, which dates back to the song’s 2004 release, has cast a shadow over their shared legacy as part of the legendary Nigerian group Plantashun Boiz. While Blackface continues to insist that his role in the creation of the song has been overlooked, 2Face remains hopeful that his former bandmate will one day acknowledge the truth and the collaborative nature of their work.
African Queen became a game-changing track for Nigerian music, launching 2Face to international stardom and helping to propel Afrobeats onto the global stage. Despite the ongoing tensions between the two artists, 2Face believes it’s time for both to be celebrated for their contributions to one of the most iconic songs in African music history.
