Onyeka Onwenu, a revered Nigerian singer, songwriter, actress, and human rights activist, passed away at the age of 72.
She died at Reddington Hospital in Lagos after collapsing during the birthday celebration of Mrs. Stella Okoli, a renowned businesswoman from Emzor Pharmaceutical. An eyewitness recounted, “Onyeka Onwenu just performed at the birthday of Mrs. Stella Okoli today (Tuesday, July 30, 2024), and after performing, she slumped. She was taken to Reddington Hospital and she couldn’t make it.”
Onwenu, affectionately known as the “Elegant Stallion,” had a distinguished career, including serving as the former chairperson of the Imo State Council for Arts and Culture and as the Executive Director of the National Centre for Women Development. Her legacy extends beyond her contributions to music and entertainment, reflecting her commitment to social causes and cultural development in Nigeria.
