Football legend Kanu Nwankwo has expressed his grief over the passing of former Super Eagles goalkeeper Peter Rufai and Liverpool striker Diogo Jota.
Rufai died on Thursday after battling a long-term illness, while Jota tragically lost his life in a car crash in Spain, alongside his brother Andre.
In a message on his X account, Kanu described the day as a “dark day” for football and offered his condolences to both families.
“Today is a dark day for football. We’ve lost an African legend, Peter Rufai. May his soul rest in peace,” Kanu wrote.
He continued in a second post: “It’s difficult to write this… may your spirit continue to inspire us and future generations. Rest in peace, and my condolences to your family.”
Kanu also paid his respects to Jota, stating: “So sad, so sad. RIP Diogo Jota.”
