Several thousand of opposition protesters took to the streets Tuesday, calling on government to bring to book criminals behind recent killings in the capital, Accra.
The mass protest which filled Accra streets with protesters clad in black and red outfits comes days after the gruesome murder of Ibrahim Mohammed, a social media activist by unknown criminals and the death of two protesters following a clash with security personnel.
A protester told BBC in an interview that Ghana’s government has been reluctant to address the increasing wave of killings around west African country adding that government vigilante forces are involved in the ongoing criminality:
“Since this government came into office, there have been instances of arbitrary killings in our country, most of them perpetrated by the ruling government vigilante forces.” https://www.bbc.com
According to local media, the country’s President Nana Akufo-Addo has instructed investigative wings to probe the death of two protesters.
But critics say the initiated probe will not serve justice as the government has failed to conclusively investigate any matter so far.
