El-Rufai, ADC Leaders Invited by Nigeria Police in Kaduna
The Nigeria Police Command in Kaduna State has invited former governor Nasir El-Rufai and several leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for questioning over allegations of criminal conspiracy, incitement, mischief, and causing public disorder.
The summons, issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, Zubairu Abdullahi, directed El-Rufai and other party members to appear at the State CID. Those named in the invitation include Bashir Saidu, Ja’afaru Sani, Ubaidullah Mohammed (popularly known as Mikiya 30), Nasiru Maikano, Aminu Abita, and Ahmed Rufa’i Hussaini (alias Mikiya).
According to the police, the invitation followed a petition filed on September 8, 2025. “This department is investigating the matter, and you are requested to appear to clarify the allegations reported against you,” the letter stated.
Leaders of the ADC in Kaduna, however, said they had not been officially served the notice and only became aware of it through social media reports.
The police action comes in the aftermath of an attack on an opposition coalition meeting in Kaduna. Suspected thugs armed with cutlasses, clubs, and stones disrupted the inauguration of a transition committee, injuring participants and destroying property. Despite the violence, the programme went ahead under tense conditions.
The coalition involved members of the ADC, a faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and representatives of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Police spokesperson DSP Mansir Hassan later said El-Rufai was responsible for the unrest, alleging that he failed to notify security agencies about the gathering despite repeated warnings.
