Kidnappers Threaten Mass Killing of Abducted Oyo Pupils
Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, has disclosed that the kidnappers holding dozens of abducted pupils and teachers in Oyo State have threatened to kill the victims if security forces launch a rescue operation.

Musa made the revelation in a preview of an interview with News Central, saying the armed group is using the schoolchildren as bargaining tools to pressure the government into releasing some of its commanders currently in military custody.
According to the minister, intelligence reports indicate that the abductors believe holding the children hostage will force the authorities to negotiate.
He added that the criminals have warned they would execute all the captives if troops attempt to storm their hideout.
The victims were abducted on May 15 when gunmen attacked Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, alongside two other schools in Esinle, Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, making away with 39 pupils and seven teachers. The victims have remained in captivity for nearly two months.
Commenting on the country’s growing insecurity, Musa renewed his call for tougher penalties against kidnappers and terrorists, backing the death penalty for those convicted of such crimes.
He argued that stronger punishment would serve as a deterrent, noting that existing laws have not done enough to discourage kidnapping and terrorism.
The minister’s remarks echo recent calls by former Edo State Governor and Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, who supported Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo’s proposal to introduce the death penalty for convicted kidnappers and bandits.
