US Lawmaker Backs Trump’s Planned Visa Ban Targeting Terror Sponsors in Nigeria
A United States congressman has endorsed the Trump administration’s plan to impose visa bans on Nigerians linked to terrorism financing and religious-freedom violations.
The move follows an announcement by US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, who said Washington would begin restricting entry for individuals who “direct, authorize, fund or support” attacks on religious groups, as well as those who participate in or enable violations of religious liberty.
Reacting to the policy shift, Representative Riley Moore of West Virginia’s Second District said the decision marks “a good first step” in demanding accountability for violence against Christians in Nigeria.
In a post on his official X handle, Moore argued that the sanctions signal growing international scrutiny of extremist networks and their supporters.
According to him, the visa restrictions send a clear message to those who perpetrate or ignore sectarian attacks:
“Accountability is coming to those who perpetrate or turn a blind eye to the persecution of our brothers and sisters in Christ.”
The policy comes against the backdrop of long-standing concerns in Washington over recurrent massacres, abductions, and attacks attributed to extremist groups and armed militias across northern and central Nigeria.
