NDC Set to Ratify Obi as Presidential Flagbearer Amid Nationwide Primaries
Delegates of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) are expected to formally endorse former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as the party’s presidential flagbearer today during nationwide primaries.
Obi, who remains the sole aspirant for the position, is expected to emerge through an affirmation process alongside candidates for other elective offices.
The exercise, which covers presidential, governorship, National Assembly, and State Assembly positions, is taking place across the country.
Party leaders said the primaries were rescheduled to May 29 following disruptions caused by the Eid-el-Kabir holidays, which affected travel and logistics for delegates and officials.
In a statement signed by National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, and National Secretary, Barrister Ikenna Alex-Morgan Enekweizu, the party said while the presidential ticket would be decided through affirmation, some legislative and governorship hopefuls would emerge through either voting or delegate endorsement.
The NDC also clarified that all results from across the states would be forwarded to the party’s national headquarters for collation, warning that no state executive has authority to declare final outcomes.
Many Senate and House of Representatives aspirants are also expected to emerge through affirmation.
