Appeal Court Ends Bid to Remove ADC, Accord from Party Register
The Court of Appeal in Abuja has overturned a Federal High Court ruling that ordered the deregistration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Accord Party and three other political parties.
In its judgment delivered on Tuesday, the appellate court held that the Forum of Former Legislators, which instituted the suit, lacked the legal authority to challenge the registration of the affected parties.
The court ruled that the group had no locus standi to file the case, making the earlier judgment of the Federal High Court unsustainable in law.
The appellate panel, led by Justice Abba Bello, consequently set aside the decision of Justice Peter Odo Lifu and dismissed the suit.
The court also ordered the Forum of Former Legislators to pay ₦1 million in costs.
