U.S., Israel Consider Major Strikes on Iran’s Energy Sites, Report Says
The United States and Israel are weighing a new wave of military strikes targeting Iran’s energy infrastructure, with action potentially taking place this weekend, according to multiple sources familiar with the discussions.
CBS News reported that the proposed operation could target power plants, oil refineries and other energy-related facilities in what would be one of the most extensive attacks on Iran’s critical infrastructure since the conflict escalated.
Sources said officials discussed the possibility of completing any operation before global financial markets reopen on Monday because of concerns about the potential economic impact. However, they stressed that no final timeline has been agreed.
Although planning is said to be at an advanced stage, President Donald Trump has not yet given final approval for the operation.
The report said Israeli officials have been kept informed of the discussions and have been coordinating with their U.S. counterparts.
However, one Israeli official maintained that no decision had been made to resume full-scale military operations and that Israel had not received a formal request to join any fresh offensive.
The proposed strikes were reportedly discussed during President Trump’s Cabinet meeting at Camp David on Friday.
While speaking to reporters afterwards, Trump indicated that Washington was prepared to intensify pressure on Tehran.
“We’ll be hitting them very hard. At some point, they’re going to say, ‘We just can’t take it anymore,’” the president said.
Asked whether diplomatic efforts were still under consideration, Trump replied: “I think we just want to win.”
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt reiterated that the administration’s objective remains preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.
Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell declined to comment on possible targets but said the U.S. military was ready to carry out any directive from the president.
As tensions continue to rise, U.S. embassies in Jordan, Jerusalem and Iraq issued security advisories urging American citizens across the Middle East to remain alert and prepare for possible travel disruptions, including flight cancellations and temporary airspace closures.
The latest developments come amid an increasingly volatile regional conflict, with military planning continuing even as no final decision on the proposed strikes has been announced.
