WAFCON 2026: South Africa, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso and Tanzania Set Up Group B Thriller
Group B of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations has been thrown wide open after two dramatic matches produced a late comeback and a historic victory.
South Africa fought back from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw against Ivory Coast in Casablanca.
Grace Sery gave the Ivorians a commanding first-half lead with a brace before Thembi Kgatlana reduced the deficit in the 71st minute.
Just when defeat seemed certain for Banyana Banyana, substitute Hildah Magaia struck deep into stoppage time to rescue a vital point and keep South Africa’s quarter-final hopes alive. Ivory Coast now have four points from two matches.
In the day’s other Group B fixture, Burkina Faso recorded their first-ever Women’s Africa Cup of Nations victory with a 2-1 win over Tanzania.
Adele Kabré opened the scoring before Tanzania responded through Hasnath Ubamba early in the second half.
Balkissa Sawadogo, who had provided the first goal, completed an outstanding performance by netting the winner to hand Burkina Faso a historic triumph.
With Ivory Coast leading on four points and South Africa, Burkina Faso and Tanzania all still in contention, the race for the two quarter-final spots will be decided in a tense final round of group matches.
