I’m Just There For Their Parents — Anthony Joshua On Loss Of Friends
Anthony Joshua has opened up on the emotional toll of losing two close friends in a car crash in Nigeria, saying his focus has now shifted to supporting their grieving families.
The former heavyweight champion said the tragedy has made him step back from personal grief in order to stand by the parents left behind, describing it as a responsibility he cannot ignore.
Joshua made the comments ahead of his July 25 fight in Jeddah against Albanian boxer Kristian Prenga, his first bout since the incident involving members of his close circle.
He explained that his priority is not his own emotions, but the people most affected by the loss.
“I’m just there for their parents. It’s about being a good soldier for them because I’ve got to look after them.”
The boxer added that both Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele were part of his inner circle, and their passing has left a deep personal impact as he prepares to return to competition.
He said boxing continues to give him structure and purpose as he navigates the difficult period, while remaining committed to the families of the deceased.
