Wanted Soldier Arrested While Allegedly Supplying Military Uniforms to Terrorists
Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested a soldier who had been declared wanted over allegations that he supplied military uniforms and other military items to terrorist groups operatin lmo East.
The soldier, identified as 23NA/84/1939 Private Mohammed Yusuf of the Nigerian Army Ordnance Training Facility, Lagos, was arrested at about 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, by troops of the 7 Provost Group.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama announced the arrest in a statement shared on X.
Yusuf was reportedly declared wanted after allegedly absconding from his unit and travelling to Maiduguri on July 7, where he went into hiding.
Investigations reportedly showed that he was later sheltered at Gomari Costain in Jere Local Government Area of Borno State by another soldier, 25NA/89/12687 Private Baba Kamal Sale, attached to the Corps of Intelligence, Dikwa.
Acting on intelligence regarding his whereabouts, the 7 Provost Group reportedly monitored the suspect for 24 hours before moving in to arrest him at Jidari Bus Stop.
He was allegedly apprehended while attempting to flee towards Cameroon.
The suspect remains in military custody as investigators probe the alleged supply of military uniforms and other military accoutrements to terrorist elements, while also examining the possible involvement of other collaborators.
The investigation is expected to establish the full extent of the alleged activities and uncover any wider network connected to the case.
