Shakira Reveals What Drew Her to Burna Boy for World Cup Song
Colombian superstar Shakira has explained why she turned to Nigerian Grammy-winning singer Burna Boy for her 2026 FIFA World Cup collaboration, Dai Dai.

Speaking on the Capital Evening Show with Jimmy Hill, the global music icon said she wanted a male vocalist who could add a distinct energy to the song.
According to Shakira, Burna Boy’s powerful and energetic voice made him the ideal choice for the track.
However, the singer also revealed that her admiration for Burna Boy had long influenced her desire to work with him.
“I have always loved Burna. I was obsessed with getting him on the track, so I called him,” Shakira said.

She further praised the Nigerian artiste’s contribution to the song, saying she could not imagine anyone else taking his place on the collaboration.
“I couldn’t imagine anybody else on it, actually,” she added.
Since its release, Dai Dai has reportedly recorded significant milestones globally, including becoming the first song to top Spotify’s newly launched Global Music Video Chart.
The song also made Burna Boy the first African artiste to reach number one on Apple Music’s Global Top Songs chart.
The Nigerian singer has also reportedly set new records for an African artiste in monthly listeners on Spotify and YouTube Music.

In another historic achievement, Burna Boy became the first African artiste to perform at the newly introduced FIFA World Cup Final Halftime Show.
