Uruguay Face US Entry Delay Ahead of World Cup Opener Match
Uruguay’s arrival for the World Cup has been thrown into uncertainty after the squad faced unexpected administrative issues that delayed their entry into the United States just before their first group game.
The team, set to open their campaign against Saudi Arabia on Monday at 11pm UK time, were unable to depart Mexico as scheduled after complications involving travel paperwork disrupted their flight arrangements.
The Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) confirmed the setback in an official update, noting that the delay was beyond their control.
The federation stated that the players were resting at their hotel while awaiting a revised departure schedule set in coordination with FIFA, now pushed to 4:15pm.
According to reports, organisers were also forced to arrange an alternative aircraft to keep the team’s travel plans on track as time pressure increased ahead of the fixture in Florida.
The disruption adds to wider concerns about travel and entry processes surrounding this year’s tournament, with teams and officials facing occasional administrative hurdles as the competition begins.
Uruguay are now working against the clock to complete their journey and focus on final preparations before their opening World Cup appearance.
