Applications Open for UK-Funded Chevening Master’s Scholarship
Graduates and young professionals seeking to study in the United Kingdom now have another opportunity to pursue a fully funded postgraduate education, following the opening of applications for the 2026/2027 Chevening Scholarship programme.

The application portal officially opened on Tuesday, August 4, and will accept entries until October 6, 2026.
Funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) in collaboration with partner organisations, the Chevening Scholarship offers successful applicants the chance to undertake a one-year master’s degree at universities across the United Kingdom.
Created in 1983, the programme identifies individuals with strong leadership qualities and equips them with academic training, global exposure and professional networks to help them contribute to the development of their countries.
Speaking on the commencement of the application process, Head of the Scholarships Unit at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Emma Hennessey, said the programme is looking for individuals who are committed to creating positive change.
“Chevening is looking for exceptional individuals who are ready to collaborate with the UK to help build a more resilient, prosperous and sustainable future,” she said.
Hennessey also stressed the programme’s commitment to diversity, encouraging people from under-represented backgrounds to apply.
She explained that the selection process goes beyond academic performance, noting that applicants are also assessed on their leadership potential and their commitment to making a lasting impact in society.
British Deputy High Commissioner in Lagos, Jonny Baxter, described Chevening as an opportunity that continues long after graduation.
According to him, scholars gain a world-class education while building lifelong connections with professionals from different parts of the world, equipping them with the knowledge and networks needed to tackle major development challenges.
He encouraged qualified Nigerians with clear goals and a desire to contribute to shared priorities between Nigeria and the United Kingdom to submit their applications before the closing date.

Interested applicants can complete the application process through the official Chevening application portal and are advised to study the programme guidelines carefully before applying.
