Chad is set to hold a presidential election after three years of military rule, aiming to transition to democracy.

General Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, who took power in 2021 after his father’s death, is favored among the 10 candidates. Despite promises of democracy, doubts linger about the fairness of the election due to opposition suppression. Chad has never experienced a peaceful transfer of power since gaining independence in 1960.
