AFCON 2025 Postponed to 2026 Due to Club World Cup Clash

The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), originally slated for Morocco, has been postponed to January 2026.

This delay of six months comes as a result of a scheduling conflict with the expanded 32-team Club World Cup. CAF’s general secretary, Veron Mosengo-Omba, cited concerns over player welfare amidst consecutive tournaments and emphasized the need for careful consideration in scheduling. The decision underscores the complex challenges facing global football calendars.
