Alleged Beating During Lovers’ Quarrel Leaves Woman Dead, Rivers Man Arrested
A 30-year-old man has been arrested by the Rivers State Police Command for allegedly beating his girlfriend to death during a domestic altercation in the Eneka area of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
The suspect, identified as Richard Emmanuel, was accused of attacking his girlfriend, Caroline Sunday, after reportedly confronting her over allegations of infidelity. The incident occurred on Saturday, July 11, at Abraham Street in the Eneka community.
Witnesses said what began as a heated argument quickly escalated into a violent confrontation. During the incident, the victim allegedly sustained a severe head injury after hitting a wall and collapsed.
Neighbours who responded to her cries for help rushed to the scene and found her lying unconscious in a pool of blood. She was immediately taken to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead by medical personnel.
Residents reportedly prevented the suspect from escaping before officers from the Eneka Police Division arrived and took him into custody.
The deceased’s body has since been deposited in a mortuary, where an autopsy is expected to determine the exact cause of death.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, ASP Blessing Agabe, said the suspect is currently in the custody of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Port Harcourt.
