Burkina Faso Slams Ban on French Media Outlet Over Alleged Terrorism Disinformation
Authorities in Burkina Faso have enforced a new ban on a French media organisation, accusing it of spreading disinformation and distorting coverage related to terrorism in the country and neighbouring Mali.
The decision was announced by the High Council for Communication, which said the action followed repeated violations of broadcasting rules tied to reports on security operations and recent militant attacks in the Sahel region.
Officials alleged that several news segments aired between April and May 2026 contained misleading content and failed to meet professional and ethical standards.
They further claimed the coverage included narratives that could be interpreted as sympathetic toward armed groups.
This is not the first time such action has been taken. The outlet had previously faced suspensions in Burkina Faso on two occasions in 2024 over similar accusations relating to its reporting on national security issues.
The latest move reflects growing tension between Sahel authorities and international media organisations, as governments in the region tighten control over information amid ongoing insurgency threats.
A similar restriction was also imposed in Mali last year, where the same outlet was suspended over concerns about neutrality in its coverage of political protests and security developments.
