Samuel Eto’o, president of the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot), has been banned from attending all national team matches for six months due to violations of FIFA’s disciplinary regulations. The sanction, announced by FIFA, stems from his behavior during the Under-20 Women’s World Cup match between Brazil and Cameroon on September 11, 2024, which Cameroon lost 3-1 after extra time.
FIFA’s statement cited Eto’o’s “offensive behavior” and violations of fair play principles but did not disclose specific details regarding the incidents. Eto’o expressed dissatisfaction over a penalty decision that led to Brazil’s equalizer. While he is suspended from match attendance, Eto’o retains his position as Fecafoot president.
This is not the first disciplinary action against him; he was fined $200,000 earlier this year for an ethics violation related to a gambling sponsorship. Eto’o, a renowned player with a storied career, is the second most-capped player in Cameroon’s history.
