Opposition People’s United Democratic Movement -PUDEMO- president, Mlungisi Makhanya has warned a surprise action against King Mswati’s Government if authorities fail to release pro-democracy Members of Parliament –MPs- including Mthandeni Dube and Bacede Mabuza this week.
Speaking in an interview with the local Online Swaziland News on Monday, Makhanya said PUDEMO have given the government a 5-day ultimatum to unconditionally release the two detained lawmakers adding that the party wants authorities to withdraw arrests targeted at MP Mduduzi Magawugawu Simelane.
“We also want officer Cece who helped us with crucial information to know how Swazis were killed to be allowed to return home and if she wishes, be allowed to to return to work. We also want political exiles to be allowed back home and that journalists and editor of the Swaziland News be allowed back home. We also want the unbanning of political parties and this should be done before Friday”, the PUDEMO President said.
The MPs in question were arrested recently for allegedly influencing the public to stage protests in demand for democratic reforms which the monarchy is opposed to.
Meanwhile, Cyril Ramaphosa, chairperson for SADC Troika, has urged political dialogue in the small impoverished country.
Ramaphosa was speaking during his meeting with King Mswati at Lozitha Palace in effort to end the deepening political crisis.
