On Monday night, gunmen believed to be Fulani militants killed at least 20 people in Bindi, Ta-Hoss district, Riyom Local Government Area, Plateau State, Nigeria. Several others were injured as residents fled in panic.
The attackers carried out a brutal house-to-house assault, targeting vulnerable groups such as women, children, and the elderly. Survivors identified the assailants as Fulani extremists, heavily armed and intent on exterminating the community and seizing its land. Despite a visible security presence in the area, homes were set on fire, and families were displaced.
The Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM) condemned the authorities’ inability to prevent these attacks, pointing out that the militants’ hideouts had been identified multiple times without action being taken. The group urged the Nigerian government and Plateau State authorities to launch a military intervention, dismantle known terrorist bases, and offer immediate humanitarian and rebuilding support. They also expressed frustration over the ongoing lack of effective security measures and demanded justice for the affected communities.
