Her Mother Brought Her to Me — Ned Nwoko Defends Marriage to Regina Daniels

Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North in the National Assembly, has addressed the renewed controversy surrounding his troubled marriage with Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, clarifying that he never pursued her for marriage but that her mother, Rita Daniels, introduced her to him.

The senator’s statement comes amid an escalating public dispute following Regina’s recent allegations of domestic abuse.

The actress had, two weeks earlier, announced her decision to leave the marriage, accusing Nwoko of violent behavior and emotional manipulation. In response, the lawmaker denied the claims, alleging that Regina was battling substance abuse and should be admitted to a rehabilitation centre.

The fallout has reignited debate about the circumstances of their union, with many Nigerians, including public figures, questioning whether Regina was underage when she married the then 59-year-old politician in 2019. Critics have since called for Nwoko’s resignation from the Senate, citing moral and ethical concerns.

In a statement released through his Communication and Technical Action Team and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Nwoko dismissed allegations of child marriage and defended his reputation. He insisted that Regina was 19 when they got married, not 17 as widely speculated.

“For clarity, Regina Daniels was born on October 10, 2000. If she has been married to me for six years, that means she married at 19, not 17,” Nwoko explained.

“The public witnessed her family giving her away in marriage. There were witnesses to the fact that her mother personally brought her to me. I never went after her.”

The ongoing feud between both parties has kept social media abuzz, with new claims surfacing almost daily.

Rita Daniels, Regina’s mother, has accused Nwoko of harassment and alleged that he ordered her arrest, while the senator maintains that his critics are using Regina’s situation to blackmail him.

Once celebrated as one of Nollywood’s most glamorous couples, Ned Nwoko and Regina Daniels’ marriage has become a focal point of national discussion, touching on issues of love, power, age disparity, and the scrutiny that comes with celebrity relationships in Nigeria’s public space.
