Kano Hisbah Halts Planned Wedding Between Nigerian TikTok Stars Mai Wushirya and ‘Yar Guda

The Kano State Hisbah Board has officially cancelled the much-publicised wedding between popular TikTok comedian Idris Mai Wushirya and social media personality Basira ‘Yar Guda, citing unresolved disputes and lack of genuine consent between the two.

Dr. Mujahedeen Aminuddeen Abubakar, Deputy Commander-General of Hisbah in charge of Special Duties, confirmed the development on Sunday, explaining that investigations revealed both parties initially agreed to marry as a way to avoid a pending court case.

According to him, “Hisbah decided to halt the wedding to prevent future conflict and to ensure that any union between them, if it ever happens, is based on sincerity and mutual understanding.”

The decision follows days of social media uproar, where fans and religious commentators debated the appropriateness of the proposed union.

Many online users accused the pair of turning a legal dispute into a publicity stunt, while others questioned whether the marriage complied with Islamic principles.

Dr. Mujahedeen further stated that the board has resolved to return the case to court for appropriate legal action, noting that Hisbah’s role was to ensure the marriage process adhered to both religious and moral standards.

The planned wedding between Mai Wushirya and ‘Yar Guda had drawn significant public attention after the duo, known for their skits and light-hearted online banter, suddenly announced their engagement earlier this month.

The announcement came shortly after reports surfaced that both had been involved in a court dispute, prompting speculation that the marriage was a ploy to reconcile legally and publicly.

Kano’s Hisbah Board, which enforces Islamic moral codes, intervened when the controversy gained traction online.

The agency said its primary concern was ensuring that marriages among public figures, especially those with young followers, reflect true Islamic values and not social media sensationalism.

According to Africaworldnews, the incident has once again highlighted the tension between religious institutions and online celebrity culture in northern Nigeria, where the influence of digital fame increasingly collides with traditional norms.
