Kenyan Electric Cars Begin 1,600km Journey from Nairobi to Addis Ahead of Africa E-Mobility Week

Kenya’s Munja Group, in partnership with the House of Procurement (HOP), has launched a bold project called Road to Addis.

This will see a convoy of electric vehicles (EVs) travel 1,600 kilometres from Nairobi to Addis Ababa between October 5 and 10, 2025.

The expedition is designed to prove that EVs can handle long distances across rough terrains, supported by temporary solar-powered charging stations along the way.

The journey is not just about cars on the road. Communities along the route will take part in awareness campaigns, driver experiences, and discussions on how electric cars can help Africa move towards clean and affordable transport.

Munja Group explained that beyond selling vehicles, it also provides EV leasing and solar charging hubs that align with global climate goals.

The company also highlighted the financial benefits of adopting EVs, such as carbon credit earnings.

The expedition has attracted strong backing from both Kenyan and Ethiopian governments, as well as private partners like Kenya Power, Africa E-Mobility Alliance, UNEP, and the Royal Norwegian Embassy.

With support from such stakeholders, the initiative is expected to showcase Africa’s readiness for sustainable transport and inspire more investment in electric mobility.
