NIGER: Niger Revokes Nationality of Deposed President Bazoum’s Associates

Niger’s military government has revoked the citizenship of nine associates of ousted President Mohamed Bazoum, citing their involvement in “serious offences” that threaten national security. The decree, signed by General Abdourahamane Tiani, specifically targets those accused of collaborating with foreign powers and engaging in acts of treason and terrorism.

Among those affected is former presidential minister Rhissa Ag Boula, currently in exile in France. Local media, such as ActuNiger, report that all nine individuals live outside Niger. The government emphasized that the actions aim to protect the country’s strategic interests and maintain public order, noting the necessity of sanctioning individuals involved in “hostile acts” against the state.

Since the military coup in July 2023, Bazoum has been in custody, and the junta has intensified its crackdown on perceived threats to its authority.
